Flow and head are manufacturer maximums. What you actually get depends on pipe size, pipe run and lift. The kits carry the figures of the pump inside them: Bianco Inox 45 in the Economy, Grundfos JP 4-47 in the Premium. Prices include GST. To have it sized against your own layout, call 0800 77 66 29 or run the pump selector tool.

Finish the job.

A cover keeps the weather off a pressure pump and quietens it down. The collection kit keeps leaf litter out of the tank in the first place.

Questions

Before you order.

Sizing, fitting, delivery and whether it is safe for drinking water.

Question not answered here? 0800 77 66 29

Which pump suits my tank?

The tank decides it:

  • Above-ground tank: pressure pump, on a pad beside it
  • Slimline or underground tank: submersible, sitting inside the tank
  • Pump station: the same submersibles as an underground tank

After that it comes down to flow and head. The next two questions work both out, or the pump selector tool will do it for you.

How much water do you need at once?

Flow, in litres a minute. Add up what might run together:

  • Shower, about 10
  • Toilet, about 7
  • Washing machine, about 4

A bach or a sleepout runs fine on 20 to 30. A three-bedroom house wants 40 to 50. Two bathrooms and outside taps, 60 or more.

How far up does the water have to go?

Head, in metres. Measure from the tank outlet to your highest tap or showerhead, then add for long horizontal runs, because they cost pressure too.

A single-storey house near the tank is comfortable on 35 to 45 metres. A house well above the tank, or a tank a paddock away, needs more.

Do I need constant pressure?

A standard pump switches on and off at set pressures. That is what most houses run and it is fine.

A constant pressure or variable speed pump varies its speed to match demand, so the shower does not drop away when someone flushes the toilet. It costs more up front. Worth it if you have two bathrooms, or if you have lived with pressure drops before.

What is the difference between the two pump kits?

Same fittings, different pump.

  • Economy: Bianco Inox 45. 58 L/min, 40 m of head, nXt Core controller. Suits a standard three-bedroom house.
  • Premium: Grundfos JP 4-47 with the PM1 pressure manager. 67 L/min, 44.5 m of head, constant pressure. Suits two bathrooms, or a house sitting well above the tank.

Constant pressure is the real difference. The shower holds when a second tap opens.

Kit, or pump on its own?

For a new above-ground install, take the kit. It has the pump, a Promax cover, the suction hose, the tank seals and the fittings, so nobody is driving back to the merchant halfway through the job.

If you already have the fittings, both kit pumps sell on their own: the Bianco Inox 45 and the Grundfos JP 4-47.

Do I need a pump cover?

For a pressure pump, yes. Both kits include one.

  • Keeps rain and direct sun off the pump and the controller
  • Takes the edge off the running noise
  • Vented so the pump does not overheat, and supplied with a mounting base

Take the large cover if your pump has a pressure tank. A submersible does not need one.

What happens if the tank runs low?

Run a pump dry and you will damage it, and tanks do get low over a dry summer. Every pump here comes with dry-run or low-water protection, either in the controller or through a float switch, and the method is on each product page.

Can I install it myself?

Part of it. A competent DIYer can connect a kit: the tank seals, hose, valve and fittings are in the box, and the controller comes fitted to the pump.

  • Tying into the house plumbing, and any mains backup install: registered plumber
  • Hard wiring: registered electrician
Are these pumps safe for drinking water?

Much of the range is approved to AS/NZS 4020 for contact with drinking water, and it is noted on the product page where it applies.

If it matters for your job, tell us before you order and we will confirm it for the model you are looking at.

Can the pump come with my tank?

If you are ordering a tank at the same time, tell us and we will check whether the pump can go on the same delivery.

Not sure which pump suits the tank you have chosen? Ring us and we will match it.
