Wall Mounted Water Switch with Submersible Pump

The Promax Wall Mounted Water Switch is a complete rainwater to mains changeover system. It runs your toilets, laundry and outdoor taps on rainwater from your tank, and automatically switches to mains water whenever the tank runs dry, so the house never goes without water.

It will never top your tank up. Instead, when it detects there's no water coming from the tank supply, it directs mains water to the outlets, leaving the tank empty and waiting for the next rainfall to fill it.

The switch has a dual check valve built into the unit, protecting the mains supply from backflow in line with NZ Building Code Clause G12 (Acceptable Solution G12/AS1).

How It Works

The tank supply and the mains supply are both connected into the water switch (changeover device), which mounts on the outside wall of the house.

The system always uses rainwater first. While the pump has water to deliver, the switch sends rainwater through to the house.

When the tank is empty, it changes over to mains so everything keeps working, and once rain refills the tank it switches back to rainwater on its own.

The pump has run-dry protection, which means when the tank runs out of water it switches off and won't attempt to restart for another 24 hours.

It tries every 24 hours until it finds water. When it does, the pump runs in automatic on-demand mode, starting whenever you open a tap, until the tank is next empty, when it switches off for another 24 hours.

Mains water never goes into the tank. There is no top-up or fill valve, so the full tank volume is always free to capture the next rainfall.

Topping up a tank with mains is outdated and wasteful: if it rains the next day, the mains water used to top up has taken the place of free rainwater.

This makes the changeover approach a more sustainable option, and a simple way to meet council rainwater reuse and retention requirements.

Backflow Protection

The built-in dual check valve is the appropriate level of protection for most residential rainwater reuse installations, which are generally considered low risk. A separate testable backflow device is only required where the installation is classed as high risk, for example where the supply serves a bidet or other high risk fixtures. Testable backflow devices are available from Promax on request.
