Why You Need a Dust Suppression Unit

Dust control on construction sites, quarries, ports and forestry operations is not just a matter of comfort. Exceeding dust limits breaches resource consents and attracts fines from the regional council. WorkSafe New Zealand classifies construction dust as an occupational hazard.

A dust suppression unit on a truck allows you to control dust on site: roads, exposed soil, loading areas. A plastic tank does not rust, is lighter than steel, and UV-stabilised polyethylene withstands outdoor operation. The Ball Baffle System inside the tank dampens water movement during braking and cornering, reducing wear on the vehicle.

Where a dust suppression unit is needed:

  • Roading and civil construction
  • Quarry dust control and mining operations
  • Port operations and cargo handling zones
  • Forestry and agricultural sites
  • Demolition and earthworks
  • Any site with regional council dust compliance requirements

Slip-On Units: 3,000L to 15,000L

Nine slip-on dust suppression units from 3,000L to 15,000L. Mount on a flat deck truck or tipper via a galvanised skid frame with tie-down and lifting points.

Standard specification (3,000L to 6,000L, 2" system):

  • Honda GX160 semi-trash pump, 1,000 LPM, head up to 28 metres
  • 2" suction system with ball valve and camlock for filling from open water sources
  • 2 rear batter spray nozzles with flow adjustment and 360 degree rotation
  • Rear spray bar with in-cab control
  • 2" camlock inlet/outlet for bulk transfer and hydrant filling
  • 10-metre flexible suction hose with brass foot valve and strainer
  • Sight glass (water level indicator)
  • Ball Baffle System
  • 30-metre fire hose reel
  • Safety beacon
  • 4 tie-down/lifting points

Units 7,000L and above: 3" system. Larger diameter pipework for higher flow. 3 rear batter spray nozzles instead of two. 3" camlock inlet/outlet.

Optional equipment: diesel or hydraulic pump (replacing the petrol Honda), front spray bar, dribble bar, self-loading legs.

Trailer Unit: 2,000L

A 2,000L towable dust suppression trailer. Honda GX120 Electric Start pump, 600 LPM, head up to 32 metres. Radio spray actuator for in-cab control. Ball Baffle System. Galvanised sub-frame. Aluminium batter spray nozzle. 2" camlock ports for filling and draining. Hydraulic brakes.

Can draw water from an open source or fill from a hydrant. Optional: washdown hose with reel, diesel pump.

Chassis-Mounted Units: 5,000L to 15,000L

Chassis-mounted dust suppression units are installed directly onto the truck chassis without a skid frame. Capacity from 5,000L to 15,000L. Pump options: petrol, diesel or hydraulic. Washdown hose with high-flow reel. Galvanised pipework. In-cab controls. Front and rear spray bar.

All chassis-mounted units are built to order at the Promax factory in Kerikeri to the client's specification. Winstone Aggregates ordered 6 units at 13,000L each for Hunua Quarry in Auckland. Lyttelton Port Company installed a 13,000L unit on an Isuzu FVZ1400 for dust control in the port's log yard.

Sidewinder Water Cannon

The Sidewinder EXM2 electric water cannon with radio remote control. 350 degree horizontal rotation, 135 degree vertical adjustment. Adjustable from mist to solid stream. Elliptical pipework with internal vane for improved flow. Stainless steel, Elk-O-Lite construction. Mounting flange 3" x 2.5" NPT.

Nelson Civil Construction installed a 10,000L unit with a radio-controlled water cannon, allowing the excavator operator to control dust without a separate water truck. WorkSafe New Zealand and local fire services responded positively to this solution.

DSU Frame Legs

Self-loading legs for 8,000L, 10,000L, 13,000L and 15,000L units. Allow the operator to load and unload an empty unit without a crane or forklift. One operator can swap a unit on and off a truck unassisted.
