Not all poly tanks are made equal

Two poly tanks can hold the same litres and look much alike from the driveway. Ten reasons a Promax rainwater tank is not the same tank as the cheaper one beside it.

Not all poly tanks are made equal

Water conservation matters, and so does durability. A water tank is not a purchase you want to repeat, and two tanks that hold the same litres and sit on the same base can be very different things once you know how each was made. Promax has been making poly water tanks in New Zealand for over 30 years. Here are ten reasons to choose a Promax rainwater tank, and most of them come back to the same idea: control over how the tank is made.

1. Engineered to the highest standards

Water tanks are subject to water pressure and temperature changes which can cause fatigue and stress. A tank that is full in February and half empty in August is being worked constantly, and it is the wall that absorbs all of it. While the corrugated design of Promax ENDURO tanks is attractive, its main benefit is the extraordinary strength of the tank wall design which, when integrated with the engineered roof profile, ensures rigidity, stability and strength. The corrugations are structural rather than decorative. That distinction is invisible on delivery day and decisive twenty years later, which is the pattern you will see repeated in most of the reasons below. See how the range compares in ENDURO vs XPRESS.

2. Manufactured with premium raw materials

Promax are one of only a handful of tank manufacturers that blend their own raw materials. This proprietary combination of product and processing is perfectly aligned with the tank manufacturing process, which means the material and the method are designed around each other rather than one being made to tolerate the other. A manufacturer working from pre-blended material takes what it is given and builds around the compromise. Blending our own makes the raw material the first quality decision we get to make rather than an inherited constraint, and it is why you can be assured of a durable tank that will stand the test of time.

3. Promax have invested in the most modern equipment available

Promax has continually invested in the most modern and up-to-date rotational moulding equipment to ensure the precision control that is critical to the cooking and cooling process, and a key determinant of product quality. Rotational moulding is a process of heat and time. Get either wrong, or let the cooling run uneven, and the finished wall is not the wall the design intended, even though the tank looks identical from the outside. That is the difficulty with tank quality generally: it cannot be inspected back into the product after the fact. It is either built into the plant and the process, or it is not there at all.

4. Every aspect of the manufacturing process is controlled from start to finish

Promax sources, blends and processes its own raw materials, uses the most modern and up-to-date rotational moulding equipment, and implements rigorous quality control processes to create robust, durable and long-lasting water tanks. Each of those is worth something on its own. Together they are the entire argument. When one company owns the chain from raw material to finished tank, there is no handover point where quality quietly becomes somebody else's problem, no supplier to blame for a batch that was not right, and nothing passed down the line in the hope that the next step will catch it.

5. At Promax, we take the time to do it properly

Manufacturing a high-quality poly tank requires time and patience. In a busy production environment it is tempting to cut corners and short-cut the process to increase production, and the temptation is real precisely because the tank that comes off the line looks the same either way. The difference does not show up on the forklift. It shows up years later, at your place. Promax have the patience to do the job properly, because taking that time optimises the physical properties of the finished tank and minimises risk for you. The minutes we spend in the process are the years you get out of the tank.

6. You have all the information to make an informed choice

With so many options available, it is essential that you get the right advice and select the tank that is best suited to your needs. The best tank in the range is still the wrong tank if it is wrong for your site. Promax have a dedicated team of customer service experts, and an extensive dealer network, to answer your questions and help you get the right tank for your needs. Promax also has an industry-leading library of online resources so you can make informed decisions about products, installation and accessories in your own time, before you speak to anyone. If you would rather start from the questions, work through our buyers checklist.

7. Fully featured tanks to suit your needs

Promax tanks are fully featured, and many suppliers charge extra for fixtures and fittings that are standard on a Promax tank. This is what makes quotes so hard to compare honestly: two prices are rarely for the same thing, and the cheaper one has a habit of becoming the dearer one once the fittings are added back. Promax ENDURO tanks are available in a range of 7 colours and are fully featured to include 4 inlet panels for ease of installation and 2 x 50mm threaded base outlets. Those inlet panels give you options about where the water enters, which matters more than it sounds once the tank is on site and the downpipe is where it is.

8. A warranty you can rely on

A warranty is a manufacturer putting in writing what it is prepared to stand behind, which makes it worth reading properly rather than skimming. You will find no tricky or ambiguous wording in a Promax warranty: no clauses drafted to be discovered at the moment you need to make a claim, and no conditions that quietly undo the headline. All Promax products come with a warranty you can trust. Read the Promax warranty terms in full and compare them against whatever else you are weighing up, because that comparison often tells you more about a tank than a specification sheet does.

9. Extensive reseller network ensures superb after-sales service

The national Promax dealer network ensures access to reliable after-sales support. That matters because buying a water tank is not a transaction that ends when the truck pulls away. Questions surface months or years later, about fittings, accessories, or something that needs attention, and the value of a network is that there is always someone to ask who knows the product and is close enough to be useful. A dealer down the road is worth more than a call centre a long way away. A network is also a reasonable signal in itself, because it takes years to build and nobody builds one for a short stay.

10. Promax is a family-owned and operated business

With manufacturing in Kerikeri and Rangiora, we are a New Zealand family business that has been making poly water tanks for over 30 years, and we are proud to support NZ families, communities and businesses. Family ownership shows up in the nine reasons above more than it does in any marketing. Taking the time to do it properly, blending our own raw materials and holding on to control of the whole process are the choices of a business that measures itself in decades rather than quarters. It also means the people making those decisions carry the name that goes on the tank. You can read more about the Promax story.

An obsession for detail and end-to-end control over the entire manufacturing process ensures that Promax produce a water tank of unprecedented quality that will stand the test of time. Water where you need it and when you need it, with the confidence of a Promax tank. It is worth understanding the alternative too, which we set out in 7 risks with buying a cheap rainwater tank.
